About “The Imposter Syndrome”

Studies show that a massive 70% of people feel like an imposter at some point in their professional life.

Imposter syndrome can cause a constant fear of being found out that you aren't 'good enough' or called out for being a 'fraud'. It impacts people in different ways and can be debilitating and negatively affect relationships, personal life and careers. So, what can you do about it?

A recent study conducted by KMPG found that:
  • Seventy-five percent of executive women report having personally experienced imposter syndrome at certain points in their career.
  • Eighty-five percent believe imposter syndrome is commonly experienced by women in corporate America.
  • Nearly half (47%) of executive women say that their feelings of self-doubt result from never expecting to reach the level of success they have achieved.
  • Due to a variety of external factors, 56% have been afraid that they won’t live up to expectations or that people around them will not believe they are as capable as expected.

In this masterclass “Overcoming the Imposter Syndrome – Your New Leadership Brand”, Rita will show you how to love your imposter. She will show you how to take on your imposter self and use it as a driver to come out stronger. Using practical down-to-earth advice based on her experiences, Rita Clifton, tackles the myth that you need to 'fake it until you make it', highlights why authenticity can be your biggest weapon and skillfully makes the case for business being more humane.

Meryl Streep, record holder for the most Academy Awards nominations for any actor ever is quoted as saying “Why would anyone want to see me again in a movie? And I do not know how to act anyway, so why am I doing this?”

Albert Einstein, Nobel Prize Genius said:
“The exaggerated esteem in which my lifework is held makes me very ill at ease. I feel compelled to think of myself as an involuntary swindler.”

Hillary Clinton said:
“Imposter syndrome is something that so many of us feel.”

About the Masterclass

This fresh and compelling new Masterclass from the business leader and brand guru Rita Clifton CBE, is based on her new bestselling book ‘Love Your Imposter. Be Your best self, flaws and all’, and reflects the very new types of leadership needed in all businesses in a transparent and fragmented digital age.

There’s been a lot of talk about a new authenticity, purpose and humanity emerging from the recent crisis, but also allied to the very practical and ‘hard’ needs for efficiency and high performance. Having led, advised and started innovative businesses herself, and been on the boards of organisations as different as ASOS, Nationwide, Saatchi & Saatchi and WWF, Rita is uniquely well placed to help other organisations create very human and very effective leaders for the future.

Rita talks about the new and developing business context, the authentic qualities needed from today and tomorrow’s leaders, and gives very practical, actionable advice on how individuals and organisations can be the best they can be to succeed – flaws and all. Audiences will come away inspired and with tools and techniques to make the very most of themselves and their organisations.
