About:

Even before Covid-19, financial worries were already the leading cause of stress for people in South-Africa, with a number of surveys showing people at work were increasingly reporting stress due to money worries.

Now, the reality is employees are struggling more than ever to adjust to the “new normal”. No one remains unaffected and everyone is reacting uniquely to circumstances that change on a daily basis. Without a doubt, caring for employee financial wellbeing should be top priority for business leaders during this time.

The CIPD’s Health and Wellbeing Survey for 2019, identified that:

  • A quarter of organisations said poor financial wellbeing was a significant cause of employee stress;
  • Three-quarters said employees did not have the knowledge and skills to make the right reward and benefit choices to meet their financial needs; and
  • Less than a quarter of organisations critically assessed the quality of wellbeing outcomes.

In another CIPD survey, conducted in April 2020, organisations where asked which concerns were most commonly reported by employees as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. 38% of private sector employers said that their employees were reporting their financial concerns to them.

Our upcoming Employee Financial Wellness Morning Seminar (sponsored by Sanlam) will serve as an platform to equip HR and Employee Wellbeing Practitioners with practical strategies they can implement to manage and promote employee financial wellbeing throughout their organisation.
