SUPPORTING AGILE ORGANISATIONS THROUGH SERVANT LEADERSHIP Workshop

Information

One-Day Workshop | 01 September 2020
Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel, Sandton | Johannesburg
Facilitated by Liezel van Arkel and Christo van Staden

“90% of CEOs believe that their company is facing disruptive change driven by technology.” (Deloitte).

In order to survive in today’s fast-changing world businesses have to be customer-centric, adaptable and flexible, make fast decisions, and innovate – for most businesses this means a big change in the way they work.

We know that with any significant change, especially at an enterprise-wide level, leadership needs to sponsor and drive the change. Leadership also needs to pay attention to driving a culture that will support the changes.

Fostering a new mind-set and creating a new culture is no easy feat. Many little habits and practices, seemingly disconnected, all come together in an agile culture, and shaping this is the responsibility of leadership. The leader, on the other hand, has to steer his or her teams into, and through fog which places an enormous cognitive and emotional load on their shoulders.

We wish to invite you join this Masterclass in our Master Series programme for talent development professionals, which focuses on how learning must become more innovative in creating and capturing value for the organisation.

For agility to emerge, be adopted and work, research have found that Servant Leadership is what is recommended. Where leaders were previously expected (and allowed) to make things happen through command and control, the servant leader is expected to ask ‘how can I help’ – and mean it! Servant leaders replace power and control with flexibility and influence. Servant leaders lead from the back rather than from the front. What are the new leadership behaviours that has to be learned and what are the implications of this? How can the style and the impact of servant leadership be sustained?

Outcomes:

  • An understanding of what agility, flexibility, adaptability and dealing with complexity means in terms of leadership and culture and how, without this residing in people, the structure, systems and operation model changes could fail.
  • Understanding the symbiotic relationship between leadership and culture
  • Explore what agile leadership and leadership agility means and what it looks like
  • Take a close look at context – agility is not always the answer or the need
  • Why servant leadership and what would this achieve
  • What does it take to change more command and control leadership styles to servant leadership style – this not being a switch that can be flicked
  • Explore how to make this practical and real
