Dr. Sean McCoy, CEO & Founder, HKLM
Sean holds a deep-seated passion for the impact and role of branding across the spectrum of economic, social and cultural influence. This has shaped his career over the last 30 years and has a definitive bearing on his role in business and academia today. In practice he has held senior leadership positions in several international marketing services organisations, which facilitated his journey as a founder member of HKLM in 2003. He supplements extensive practice across a wide range of industry sectors with ongoing academic research in the field. As a consummate learner he concluded his doctorate in brand alignment for competitive advantage in 2013, and builds on this area of study through ongoing academic research and supervision at a number of leading business schools. He has published in international journals and contributed extensively to thought leadership in the field, through active media and conference participation, locally and abroad.
Yasmin Kathoria, Business Humaniser, Innate Motion & Previous Global Brand Director, Unilever Brand
A Purpose Brand Strategist and Creative Communication Crafter, Yasmin is a brand visionary, strategic shaper, creative leader and influencer. She brings global expertise in building brands with purpose, citizen participation and brand movements. She has worked at the forefront of brands and marketing with Unilever for 15 years and now consults for some of the world’s most well-known brands and businesses.
Kanchana Moodliar, Business Humaniser & Partner, Innate Motion Africa
Kanchana is a Business Humaniser at Innate Motion. Do you believe you can use your business influence & position to do good for the world? Then you too are a business humaniser. In the world we find ourselves in today, we can be complacent and work within the status quo or we can challenge it and be the people that pushed boundaries and changed the world for good. Being human is something that gets lost, when we put on a title and work within a structure that does not allow us to bring the best of ourselves. Kanchana shares the world's leading strategies and tools from innate motion that have positive effects on the company bottom line, while driving purpose.
Pierre van der Hoven, Founder & CEO, Tuluntulu
Pierre has over 20 years’ experience in the media industry. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, Chartered Marketer and has a MBA from Henley. His career started at the SABC where he occupied various financial and strategic positions. And then the entrepreneurial drive took over … he was a founder and key player in setting up a number of media companies including eTV, YFM, Yarona FM, TBM and SA Direct. In early 2010, he re-started a consultancy business called Baobab International focusing on the Web 2.0, social media, and online video as well as the media and travel / tourism industries. Tuluntulu launched in 2011 with Pierre as its Founder and CEO. Tuluntulu has received a number of awards including a Frost & Sullivan Customer Value Leadership Award VOD 2015, a number of Technology Top 100 awards, Best African App AppsAfrica award, MTN App of the Year finalist in 2015, and has been recognized globally Unilever Foundry 50 as one of the top 50 startups in the world in 2015, and by Interbrand as a global ‘Breakthrough Brand’ in 2016.
Veli Ngubane, ‎Founding Partner & Chief Creative Officer, AVATAR
Veli entered the world of advertising after completing his BSocSci (Politics, Economics & Law) at the University of Cape Town and a postgraduate Marketing & Advertising diploma at the Red & Yellow School, where he currently serves as advisory board chairman. He has judged various prestigious awards including: the Loeries, Apex awards and Adfocus awards. He has a passion for entrepreneurship and transformation within the advertising industry, he sits on IAB’s transformation & education council. He was also nominated as Mail & Guardians Top 200 Youth of 2017.
Masego Chulu-Mantsho, Strategy Director (Marketing Communications) at Ogilvy & Mather
Masego has been in the Brand, Marketing & Communications industry for the past 15 years. She is passionate about crafting strategies, launching and managing brands, as well as coming up with the best ways of engaging consumers with brands. Her experience varies from FMCG, Banking, Insurance and Telecoms and has had the pleasure of managing brands as a client and also as an agency partner. She studied her bachelor’s degree at Rhodes University and achieved her Honours through UNISA and currently busy with her Master’s Degree in Business Management. She is a mother and a wife and loves spending time with her family.
Ulrich Meyer-Höllings, Director, Future by Design
Ulrich is joint-managing partner at Future by Design - a design thinking-led strategic innovation and growth consulting business that works with large organisations to unlock adjacent or new business opportunities through structured incubation efforts. Current clients include: Standard Bank, Distell, Equity Bank, Kagiso Media. Ulrich holds a PhD in Innovation Management in Creative Industries and a Masters Degree in Design Thinking from Luneburg University in Germany.
James Maposa, Director: Business Development, Intergroup Brand Science
James has over a decade of work experience, mostly spent in the research and strategy consulting industry. His core focus as a Director Consultant is to identify, build and progress client relationships, driven by a strong understanding of industry fundamentals and associated brand development benefits. Before joining Intergroup, James worked for Frost & Sullivan, Ipsos and Ernst & Young where he was responsible in supporting clients to grow and progress their respective businesses within the sub-Saharan African market. He holds an Honours degree in Environmental Science (cum Laude), a Master’s degree in Programme Evaluation and an MBA.
Darren Hart, Owner, Off By Hart Media
Darren-Jay is a well-informed wordsmith whose passion for media stretches his 15-year career. Having started his career at ELLE South Africa, he quickly moved up the editorial ranks and, at 27, was appointed as the editor of UK-syndicated Essentials magazine. After six years at the helm of the popular consumer title, Darren-Jay was then selected to conceptualise and edit a branded content publication for Unilever. Shortly afterwards, realising that content marketing could bridge his media skills, Darren decided to fully immerse himself in digital marketing and, in 2014, was hired as the first Digital Content Specialist for the Telesure Group. One year later, Darren was appointed as the Head of Digital Content at Sun International. Leveraging his experience and skills, in 2017 Darren started his own media and content agency under the name Off By Hart Media.

SETA grants and accreditation requirements

Many of our delegates enquire about the accreditation of our events. There is a misconception that organisations qualify for SETA grants only for accredited programmes. This is not correct. The payment of SETA grants is regulated by the Government Gazette, no. 9867, Vol. 570, 3 December 2012, no. 35940. These Regulations clearly state that the SETAs “must allocate a mandatory grant to a levy paying employer” that has submitted a WSP and ATR by the regulated date, has provided all the information required in the regulated template, and is up to date with skills levy payments. Furthermore, the template in the Regulations (Section C: Skills Development) allows employers to include ALL planned training in the report; not only accredited programmes.
